Shooting the annual lion dance and fireworks at Thean Hou temple last year took time. Much time. Although the two events I wanted to photograph was scheduled at 10 pm, I had to go there before 5 pm.
Otherwise; the road up the hill will be congested with cars and chartered buses. Many drivers who came later, gave up and their cars can be seen parked on the highway as I was driving back. A few, overheated and stalled going up the hill.
Time after time, a Malaysian event will never start on time or take place as scheduled. The fireworks didn’t start until way past 11 in the night when it was published as 10 pm.
Anyway. Plenty of time to while away and to look at or photograph things not done normally. The temple courtyard had interesting shadows I never noticed on previous trips. Mickey Mouse shadows.

The zany pedestrian crossing is painted with the fur stripe patterns of a zebra instead. The quirky and zany approach gives hint to or acts as a prelude to the creative and unconventional management of the mall inside.
The suits (management) will normally panic if such an idea is suggested. Kudos to whoever who approved and allowed the implementation. The crossing is at the basement car park, just outside the entrance with 7-Eleven and Tony Roma’s.
There are a few remaining pics which I may post outside the series.
Hope you enjoyed the series as much as I enjoyed capturing the images.

Google MY surprised us with a doodle of the late Yasmin Ahmad, being the auteur’s birthday today.
Here is one of the the last pics I captured of Yasmin on set, with my old friend, D.O.P. Keong. It was in Ipoh during the filming of Muallaf.

Photographed this scene in front of H & M at Avenue K. Somehow, it reminded me of some images I saw in a book at Kinokuniya earlier. The Big Apple of the 60s or 70s; expansive neon lights and brisk walking.

A large glass facade on the cineplex floor provides an interesting photography subject in a play of light, shadows and silhouettes.
