SeaLion Firefly Concept Hotel Kuala Selangor

SeaLion Firefly Concept Hotel Kuala Selangor.

With Term 2 school holidays (for Malaysia) coming up, you may want to look at some domestic destinations to take your kids. I like Kuala Selangor, which has a good mix of cultural, food and nature attractions.

Fireflies come to mind but it can be ruined by the vagaries of weather and parents worrying about the risks of boat rides. You and your kids can now view flickering fireflies in the safety of your hotel room without life jackets.

Watch via unique projection system from the comfort of your bed at the SeaLion Firefly Concept Hotel in Kuala Selangor.

Curiously the shower and toilet cubicle is transparent glass, just like the Love Hotel in JB, I reviewed.

So choose your roommate wisely unless you like watching the other person pee, poo or shower with fireflies on his or her body. Nevertheless, there is a curtain and lock.

Planet Of The Apes On Top Of Malawati Hill

Planet Of The Apes On Top Of Malawati Hill.

It was like entering a strange world where monkeys rule. The zombie like guys standing upright on top of the cars added to the surreal and strange atmosphere. They were looking at the glittering Straits of Malacca and mangrove swamps below. Heartbreaking to see the young one hanging on tight to a soft toy while begging for food.

The endangered Silver Leaf (silvered langurs) and the old world long tail macaques co exist as separate colonies here. Many cheapskate humans feed the wildlife with junk food they grab from their kids feasting on the packets in the car.

There are hawkers selling organic food like chopped vegetables, fruits and nuts. Spend some money instead of throwing out unwanted food. I am afraid one of the monkeys may end up like the extremely obese Uncle Fatty in today’s MyCen News story. https://www.facebook.com/mycenews/

Buy from one of the kindly Indian uncles as he can tell you which are the less aggressive ones and not getting enough food. I saw him pulling an orange baby monkey out from under a parked car about to move.

It is a symbiotic relationship as the monkeys get food and draw tourist money for restaurants, hotels and businesses in Kuala Selangor. That keeps the town council from exterminating them.

Trees Are Poems The Earth Writes Upon The Sky

A re-visit to Pasir Penambang. the small seafood and fishing town off Kuala Selangor, brought a smile to my face. Happy to see the old tree in the middle of the road still standing and alive. In a society with scant regard for conservation and preservation of nature and old things, it was surprising to see the tree still in the middle of the road spared – four years on.

I last photographed it in 2013 and titled it King Of The Road – Small Town. Big Tree. Instead of using sepia, I used Nik Collection’s Color Efex Pro 4 Bi-Colour Filter for the current image It is similar to bi-color Cokin filters of old days.

Although published in my old blog and on Instagram, I made the mistake of not tagging it adequately. Finding the previous image was tough and it took a while.

Lap Chun or Li Chun

Every year the myth is propagated on Lap Chun or Li Chun. It is today for this year 2017. So expect to see many balanced eggs on social media today.

I tried it with the monkeys in Kuala Selangor during Year of the Monkey CNY last year. Not the best place to try. One of the curious monkeys grabbed an egg and ate it raw, It is a myth because you can balance an egg on any other day.

Mee Udang Banjir

We stopped randomly at Mee Udang Banjir near Kuala Selangor. It is a kind of Malay shrimp gumbo with shells and feet of the prawns included with yellow noodles.
The prawns aren’t exactly galah as advertised, which is giant freshwater prawns but the dish is photogenic and tasty nevertheless . RM 10.50 for the dish with regular size prawns.
