Introducing Nga Nga

Nga Nga is our lonely and bored indoor cat. He holds a special place in our hearts. Eight or nine years ago, my mom saw a tiny kitten trapped and crying in a water logged and deep monsoon drain that he must have fallen into.

Mom summoned me and I jumped in without thinking. The drain was so deep I could not climb back up. Had to walk a mile before finding a way to climb out, with the wet, dirtied and frightened kitten in hand. Nga Nga means baby in Cantonese. Was the name registered at the vet when he was sent for check up and vaccinations.

Nga Nga is seen here wearing a collar that came with one of the bags of cat food donated by Lewyee Ng through Tesco’s online purchase and delivery.

The cats still need food donations. See my recent post entitled “There Is Hope” (http://www.tvsmith.my/eclectic/there-hope) (or PM me for the Tesco link) and info on how you can help Nga Nga and my other cats. Thank you.

Fresh As Tesco

A 4 KG carton of honey mandarin oranges I bought from them are still juicy today, some 20 days later. In comparison, a box I received as a gift around the same time were already dried up and some oranges are rotting.

Amazing that the Tesco ones stayed so fresh, juicy and tasty so many days after purchase. It was labelled as Fujian Yongchun Honey Mandarin imported from China by Kaishen Trading. Was cheap too. Cant remember the price but hope co-shopper Johnny can remember.

Shopping for perishables is a hit and miss affair and it depends on luck, I know. I was twice lucky and was also happy with the CNY pineapple tarts bought from Tesco.

A Valentine Day’s Gift

While not intentional, it was a pleasant Valentines Day’s gift for me and my cats, since it arrived today.

She is not only generous but, at my request, helpfully screenshot part of the purchase process to keep me in the loop. It will help me understand the process and to troubleshoot should other new donors have questions. So far it seemed simple and dependable, if you use a Malaysian issued credit or debit card.

Overall, Tesco portrayed a positive image in my limited dealings with them. From executive Jidz Mohamed to the truck driver or delivery guy. They adopt a “can do, will do” attitude. The delivery man called me for directions and I whatsapp him a map. He was willing to cart the tray into the house at my request. Well done Tesco for hiring and training staff with the right attitude. I am sure the invisible backend operation is complex in getting the orders properly sorted for shipping, The front end (Rino) was courteous, friendly and punctual. That bodes well for the nascent service.

2. Picture of one of my cats Naughty Nuri checking out the gifts. Unfortunately, only one bag came with a free collar. So I will give it to her.

3. Picture of sweet Lewyee Ng from her Facebook page.

4, The Tesco Man always smiles and rings twice.

I made a plea a few days ago under a post named There Is Hope (http://tvsmith.my/eclectic/there-hope). Future donors, please include a bag of cat litter or clumping sand, if you can. They are too heavy for me to purchase myself even, with a friend’s help. Links in the original FB post. Remember to PM or email (tvsmith at gmail.com) me for delivery address, phone number and delivery time slots. Thanks,

There Is Hope

After speaking to Jidz Mohamed of Tesco Malaysia, I can confirm you can donate cat food and cat litter for my 5 cats. Their usual brand is Smartheart Seafood Flavour and they are costing me a fortune currently. I have had them since rescuing and adopting them as orphaned homeless kittens.

My revenue is reduced with my recent medical condition. My mobility is affected too and shopping for heavy stuff is challenging, I worry constantly about their food and other burden but am cheered up when I see them play with me.

Tesco online store will deliver your online purchases and I will need to give you my address and mobile number privately. Please PM or email me tvsmith@gmail.com for that. You will also need to choose a time slot for delivery.

It is a dependable system used by many animal shelters and soup kitchens. Currently, generous and angelic PuiSee Chu has donated, helped me buy and delivered it to my home when she is able. Other kind people and animal lovers have donated too, after the last appeal.

If you are abroad, you might have problem using an overseas issued credit or debit card. That sucks. Let me know and I will check with Tesco. You can also send money by Pay Pal to tvsmith@gmail.com and I can utilise the funds to buy the needed food for the cats. Thank you for your donations and contributions.

Pineapple Tarts

The jar of pineapple tarts that me and Johnny Ong picked at random in Tesco turned out to be quite good.

The Asian cookie is popular during festivals and the blob of orange is hardened pineapple jam. The pastries are fluffy, flaky and tastes buttery with “melts in the mouth” goodness. Kudos to Tesco for sourcing a good supplier. Shown as halal Nyonya Pineapple Tarts from Ann-Lee Industries on the label.

I enjoyed photographing the tarts because they look big. textured and luminous. Huat ah!
