Good News For Instagrammers

They use auto comment that detects new posts or by keywords. Then then spam you with ugly comments. I think of it as a form of vandalism on my feed and will delete and report them as soon as I see them.

The sad part is many Instagram users do not delete spam comments and leave it there. It only encourages such garbage as an innocent party might click or follow the link. You are providing a free advertising medium for spammers and scammers. Worst part; is some even follow back such spammers. The hunger for followers and comments is telling.

In case you don’t know, many such accounts are probably robots and robots won’t look at your posts, like your posts or comment in a meaningful way.

I have always reported them and nothing was ever done. Neither were there any acknowledgements or feedback previously.

All of a sudden, from a few days ago, Instagram started sending back report receipts saying they have taken action and the offending accounts were deleted. All within the same day to boot. Kudos to Instagram for making the platform a safer and cleaner place.

So don’t just delete spam but report them as well. I take it that many do not even know that spam comments can be deleted. Methods for deleting comments depends on phone and OS. Some phones may require you to slide or swipe the comment, or to hold down the comment for options or to mark it as selected and then pressing the trash can.

Use reporting responsibly and ethically as some may be promoting a legit business like selling clothes or scarves. In that case, just delete the comment if you feel it is spammy. Some may just be promoting their own Instagram accounts to gain more followers legitimately .

How many you here on Facebook are also my Instagram followers? I can’t tell sometimes as your user name may be radically different. Let me know if I didn’t follow you back. My Instagram is at @tvsmithmy

All That Glitters Is Gold

The stretch between Morib Beach and the luxurious AVANI Sepang resort in Bagan Lallang was branded as the Gold Coast of Selangor. For me the true beauty of the Gold Coast is at this section where mangrove trees appear half sunken during the sea’s low tide.

Under a golden sunset, all that glitters is gold, especially to someone appreciative of nature. I love the haunting and eerie silence of the submerged trees when contrasted with the the noisy birds flying above the swamps.

Unusual to see so many crows here. Crows are scavengers but not marine birds. Maybe the low tide exposes food. One of them, in mid flight, looked like it had a fish hanging from its beak. I took the Sony A7R out from the bag as it has the rapid firing capability needed for this scene.

This corner is a true eco tourism gem that is overlooked and not promoted. Look for gold yourself at the Gold Coast.

Only Bloggers Would Understand The Pain

Do you know many of my Facebook posts are found or replicated on my blog or website? Not all, but when I can.

There, you can see bigger pics and find related links as cross references. For example, looking at the Leaning Tower post, you will find convenient links (under Related Posts sidebar) to Mastan Ghani Mee Rebus, Liew Kee Chee Cheong Fun and other Teluk Anson stories.

It is not easy maintaining both. Imagine the drudgery of the repetitive chore when replicating content from social media. It was why many blogs fell out with the arrival of Facebook. One is easy and will lull you into disinclination of your blog, while the other requires work and maintenance of the CMS. Bloggers will understand the enigma.

Still nothing can beat a blog’s tagging, statistical analysis, internal search, revenue generating potential, search engine exposure and related links feature. The downside is it costs money to host and is nightmarish doing all the CMS and plug in updates.

I am happy that some of my posts from multiple blogs from as early as year 2000 were indexed and archived by search engines. With so much content from my past, I usually depend on search engines to find some of my own posts that I now only have faint memoirs. Ironic, isn’t it?

Travel Partners Make Or Break Your Travel

At Tanjung Sepat, I wanted to get shots of fishing nets and related paraphernalia since we were in a fishing town. Alex Wong MF, my helper and driver for that day was extremely accommodating in his willingness to help me get to places we both weren’t familiar.

Can’t stress enough of the importance of a travel partner who share the same vision and who is understanding and flexible. Am grateful for the shots I got and can’t thank this kind, generous and patient man enough.

We found a house which we think was manufacturing fish traps or cages. I told Alex I needed to get the dilapidated house behind and Alex understood my intention.

As with any travel, don’t be too serious about everything. Keep it light hearted and fun. Both are seeing things never before experienced when exploring a new place.

Travel is about observing and noting things together for impromptu discussions.

For example; we laughed when we saw a new housing estate there. Every Chinese house had a massive, shiny stainless steel gate and a pair of stainless water tanks on the roof. A sign of the new rich or a status symbol, perhaps.

In the 80s and before, Chinese families aspired to migrate to Australia when they became rich. Now it is a fetish like passion for acquiring stainless steel or chrome ornaments.

If you think you may also be a suitable adventure or roadtrip mate and would like to learn more about photography or to have a few chuckles together at the same time, please contact me.

Thanks, Alex for making it a fun, productive and memorable trip
