Oh Glorious Oh Chien

Might as well look at the Oh Chien (oyster omelette) dish again through the GM-1 camera. Also many were asking for the address and specific directions.

There are like a million seafood restaurants by the seaside and it can be confusing. Finding a good and fairly priced one may be like finding a needle in a haystack. We were simply lucky acting on gut feelings. Pun unintended. Address given below.

Here you can better see the oysters are fresh, plentiful and peanut sized. In comparison, many roadside hawkers and food courts serve a version where you need a magnifying glass to pick out the oysters.

Restaurant Seafood New Hock Heng Huat Tg Sepat. Non-halal.
522 Jalan Tiga, Seafront, Tanjung Sepat. Tel: 016 647 8775

It is next to a big Chinese temple and next to the more prominently advertised Bay Watch Restaurant. Look for Jalan Tepi Laut. It is next to the old jetty being rebuilt now.

Golden Sands Of Desaru

I first went to Desaru on a leisurely, unplanned roadtrip, maybe 20 years ago, with Ken Chia and a bunch of other friends. We went via Kota Tinggi waterfall and I remember Desaru as very deserted. Desolation is a rare charm nowadays, though.

It is still relatively quiet and lonely. I like it this time on this second trip with Sharon. It was quite idyllic and beautiful. Desaru is near the southern tip of the peninsular facing the former South China Sea.

The shadows of the palm trees and casuarina trees were like paintings on the golden sands and it was tricky capturing it. We were standing on a ledge and needed to keep our own shadows out of the way. The beach was surprisingly litter free for a weekend getaway destination.

Our Own Kokomo

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go, Jamaica

Off the Florida Keys, there’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you want to go to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo

~ The Beach Boys

From the Pasir Gudang Kite Flying site, we drove down to isolated Desaru beach where Sharon indulged in her favorite macro photography on the beach. I just enjoy the view; the peaceful casuarina trees, the swaying palms, the gentle pounding of waves and the fine sand on my feet. This is life! Didn’t we get enough wind at Pasir Gudang? Haha.

Not many girls will enjoy macro photography because one needs to get one’s hands and knees dirty. It is tough work plus most girls dont like looking at bugs upclose.

Lee Jetty Sunrise

She saw the sunrise rising in Penang and chased after it, ending up at Lee Jetty at around 7:15 am. The takeaway is scenic or beautiful scenes can be found at your own backyard, if you care to see it. You don’t need to go to Mauritius 🙂

Important to note that she kept the horizon or sea level. A slanting sea from careless framing can ruin a nice seaside shot.

I used the free Nik Collection suite that included HDR Efex Pro2. I think Nik’s mobile Snapseed will be able to accomplish the same with its Drama filter. Making the rain clouds visible added drama to the sunrise. The blue and red hues can be adjusted to taste. Additional lens flare was rendered by Photoshop CC.
