Doenjang Jjigae

Brave Johnny Ong’s choice for lunch was Doenjang Jjigae or Korean Fermented Soybean Paste Stew with tofu. Plenty of accompanying knick knacks and soup to fill up the small table at Be Bap. Good thing, I brought a wide angle lens. The deceptively tiny GM-1 is a system camera with interchangeable lens mount. The cozy Korean sidewalk restaurant in Nu Sentral faces the busy KL Sentral Station or transit hub and was crowded with people during lunch time.

Korean Glass Noodles

The Korean dish of glass noodles or Tang Hoon (in Hokkien) is pretty delicious, photogenic and affordable for two struggling artists like me and Johnny Ong.. Johnny` was forever helpful, in not only driving me there. but also lifting the noodles with the awkward steel chopsticks for me to photograph.

I placed an American made Litepanels portable light at an angle to make the transparent glass noodles glow a bit. Stir fried glass noodles with vegetables and chicken is known as Jab Chae or sweet potato starch noodles at B Bab the Korean restaurant in Nu Sentral.

MMMBop

Funny how an almost 20 year old song stays fresh in your mind. Fresh like mint. I ordered a Mint Soda at the popular Korean casual cafe and they brought a glass of raw mint leaves and a can of Schweppes soda.

Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It’s a secret no one knows
It’s a secret no one knows
Oh, no one knows
Mmmbop, ba duba dop

A Cockerel’s Tail

To see how beautiful the tail is, one may need to photograph the rooster from one of the upper floors. The majestic tail is made up of lanterns. It wasn’t lit when I was on the ground level (see previous pic).

The Biggest Cock In Town

With Chinese New Year (CNY) around the corner, every shopping mall in town is showing off a big cockerel in conjunction with the Lunar Year Of The Rooster. Nu Sentral Mall outsized everyone with a tall and gigantic chicken in the lobby. A little girl and her mother takes a pic on location. Photography Tip: When photographing Gulliver sized objects, always include another human for size comparison and to show scale. Not sure if we can still call the rivalry a Small Cock Syndrome.

Happy Chinese New Year and safe travels everyone.
