Cendol Ibrahim Banting – A Cursory Review

Off the bat, I like the metal bowl and metal spoon used. It always make the cendol concoction feels colder. Love the coarsely textured shaved ice too but the green cendol jellies tasted a little too salty. And it was not because of the santan (coconut milk brew).

I regretted not specifying “Kurang Manis”(less sweet) as some regulars did. Lessening the palm sugar can reduce the sweetness significantly. Not sure if it will do well with the saltiness of the cendol.
The shop sells its own complementary mamak rojak pasembor too. I tried it on a previous trip and it was quite good.

Blue Kerabu Rice And The Clitoris

While the Asus phone camera allowed fast and easy capture and consequently; a simple method of uploading, I captured the dish with a “real” camera at the same time.

After slotting the SD card from the GM-1 into the PC, I can take my time to pick one I like. I chose one where the salted duck egg can be seen clearly. The gallery on the phone is too small to make creative decisions.

As far as tradition goes, Nasi Kerabu is garnished with aromatic knick knacks such as fried fish crackers and grated herbs. I picked this pic to place in the sample gallery of my Food Photography Services by TV Smith (Facebook) page.

Whether you are having steamed white rice or blue rice, Kak Teh Nasi Kukus (Facebook) in Banting serves the most fragrant spice marinated crispy fried chicken (Ayam Goreng Berempah) to go with it.

The Kelatanese blue rice is (hopefully) derived from the natural blue colouring of the butterfly pea flower (Bunga Telang) or its scientific name, Clitoria ternatea. Famously known as the “clitoris flower” as it is shaped like the woman’s delicate private part with its own clitoral hood or sheath.

The Last Hand-Powered Ice Shaver- Cendol Ibrahim Banting

Cendol Ibrahim is another famous Banting institution worth checking out. The shop from the 1960s is one of the last cendol stalls still using an old fashioned hand powered-ice shaver.

Love Is Blue

One will never find it without modern day navigation aids such as Waze or Google Maps.

I ordered Nasi Kerabu or Kelantanese blue rice and a piece of fragrant spice marinated fried chicken thigh.

Had to be very alert and quick to stop the butcher wannabe at the kitchen from chopping and splintering the bones into a thousand pieces.

Fish And Chips Ah Beng Style In A Container

This time photographed with my Asus Zenfone 3. Fish and chips Ah Beng style includes Hash Brown and a sausage. Unconventional but I like.

The cafe is halal though and the chef and kitchen crew appeared to be Malays. The owner should be Chinese as I saw the red altar of the Chinese land or ground deity outside the kitchen.

Photography Tip: Add a little corner vignetting to make the widescreen format (16:9) of the phone more constrained and intimate.
