IOI City Mall, Putrajaya – Part 4

A choco strawberry cake by Japanese patisserie Komugi. I can’t afford it but, for me, the satisfaction was working on removing the strong yellowish cast created by the display lighting.

IOI City Mall, Putrajaya – Part 3

Tesco installed a bank of self-checkout machines at their hypermarket to reduce queuing. Feeling like a ‘jakun’ (a politically insensitive term) seeing it for the first time. It is like a family attraction as many customers were also fascinated by the novelty. It is a pilot deployment and the first by a major retailer in Malaysia.

A large glass facade on the cineplex floor provides an interesting photography subject in a play of light, shadows and silhouettes.

IOI City Mall, Putrajaya – Part 1

Was I wrong! I went in and it was bustling with visitors inside. It was not even a weekend or public holiday.

Many people complain that new malls are all identical. They have to be. The shops are all template designed and stocked.

I think IOI City Mall’s appeal is that they managed to attract many tenants in its early days. Almost every retailer and food outlet is represented here. Not only are they here, they are all opened.

Many new malls usually open with empty or shuttered lots. The only time I went to a new mall I liked was Setia City Mall. It opened with a full array of functioning shops and restaurants too. I had fun with a camera here at IOI City Mall and here’s a photo essay or sort of.

The ‘city’ moniker is derived from the developer’s own township named IOI City. It is on the edge of Putrajaya. It is the venue of the Putrajaya Marriot and the new mall has the Le Méridien Putrajaya attached.

Cantonese Fried Noodles

The ‘yin-yang’ version is made with fried ‘kueh teow’ (ricecake strips or Chinese fettuccine) and ‘bee hoon’ (rice vermicelli). A thick broth
cooked with corn starch, eggs, meat and vegetables is poured over the noodles.

I love my vermicelli crispy so I always request they not drown theingredients with too much gravy. At a roadside and village stall, it
is easy to do that. Just speak to the cook or chef directly when ordering.
