The Cardboard Camera Is Very Practical For A Beach Outing

Someone asked me today about my favourite local beach. Not for swimming or water activities. For sunset photography.
Sunsets are almost always fabulous from the seaside. KL is landlocked. So what do we do? We can travel to the nearest beach. Where can we go? Morib is on the west coast facing the Straits of Malacca and facing the setting sun.

1. The sunsets are consistently good.
2. It is relatively near to KL.
3. The hotels are fairly cheap.
4. We get to stop at Banting where there is good food.
5. If you are adventurous, you may want to drive south to AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Bagan Lalang.

A long time ago, a Chinese provision (grocery) shop lady in Morib warned me to not walk on the beach at night. She said there were cases of couples getting robbed. The beach is now less deserted at night but always stay safe and alert.

On the Morib esplanade, Carmen was photographed showing off her IKEA cardboard camera known as KNÄPPA. It was a one time issue, was not for sale nor did it require assembly. Just insert the two included yellow IKEA batteries. Memory is built in. It is fully functional albeit the brutalist design. I like that it uses a peep hole as viewfinder.

The blurry images are like those from Holga and Lomo. Unlike the two, this is digital but minus the cost of film. Blurry and unique should make it a sought after hipster collectible. Is there a tripod screw hole? IKEA wants you to buy a chair for stability.

At the beach, we need not worry about rust from the salty air and sea spray corrosion. However, at home; you might need to worry about silverfishes and other bugs eating your cardboard camera when stored in the drawer! LOL.

Seaside sunsets are unpredictable because of the travel distance and can fade fast because of changing weather.

When you hand over your camera to someone, you need to examine the background yourself and remind your friend to avoid any distracting objects such as a lamp post or a building sticking out from your head? I didn’t like the rock behind her magnificent backside Solution? Move. It is a long beach.

Zoila and the W Hotel of Barcelona

I have followed Intagrammer Zoila Guerrero (@zoila_guerrero) for years and always thought she is Spanish or Brazilian. She told me she is Ecuadorian. I contacted her to get her permission to share this pic for 3 reasons. It will be an injustice if I didn’t let mankind see her awesome body in a bikini doing a beach volleyball squat.

Secondly. I wanted to introduce the RM 5000 a night W Hotel of Barcelona. It is the stylish tall building on the beachfront along the Barceloneta boardwalk . Thirdly, there are also a couple of photography tips to derive from this pic. People get distracted at the beach easily and don’t keep an eye on the horizontal leveling, This is particularly important when you are shooting the sea where the real horizon must be level. Notice the W Hotel and trees are tilting to the left?

Another tip: When I step onto a sunny open airspace in the daytime, I always look at the shadows formed on the ground. This will tell you which direction the sun is shining from. Be conscious of it and you can avoid dark faces when the sun is behind.

Krabi.

Krabi Town and Province on the South Western part of Thailand is an area characterized by craggy, sheer limestone cliffs, dense mangrove forests, and more than a hundred offshore islands.

Some of its most popular beach destinations include the Phi Phi Islands, which jut from the sea like giant rainforested boulders, and Railay Beach, accessible only by boat and a prominent rock-climbing spot. Koh Hong or Hong Island is another one of the more popular islands.

Beaches For Your Sunset Pics – Part 4

I’ve been looking at my sunset pics to feature more for the Beaches For Your Sunset Pics series. See sidebar for related links.I think Bagan Lalang can be the 4th beach to include. I know. Singapore has Clarke Quay and Boat Quay and what do we have? Weed Quay! Haha. It may be far but it has yielded consistently good sunsets for me, so far.

I first went there before AVANI Goldcoast Sepang was even built, Since Bagan means a fisherman’s quay or fisherman’s wharf or jetty and lalang means weed or blady grass, I placed the camera on the ground on top of the grass creeping on the sand for this very low view of the sunset.

Besides the luxury AVANI Sepang Gold Coast Resort, there are a couple cheaper alternatives very nearby. When you finish with the sunsets, it will usually be already 8 pm and the road is dark and narrow, So stay a night and relax.
